SPRING SELF CARE

Just the word ‘spring’ makes you want to take a long deep refreshing breath. It evokes feelings of newness, freshness, hope and positivity. It literally puts a spring in your step, conjuring feelings of warm sunshine, longer days and countryside walks filled with new buds and blooming hedgerows.

It’s the perfect time to start thinking about new routines and especially your self-care and wellbeing.

Here are some tips on how to start a new self-care routine:

Clean- I always love to start a self-care routine by cleaning – odd as this sounds, I feel like I really set myself up for success if everything around me is clean, organised, and clutter-free. It needn’t be a mammoth spring clean if you don’t have the time or energy. Just tidying things away and doing a quick hoover can make a space feel more zen. Put some nice fresh flowers into a vase or add a lovely new houseplant to bring nature indoors too.

Essential oils - Add some essential oils to a burner or diffuser to create your desired atmosphere. I love a few drops of lemongrass as it’s wonderfully uplifting and creates a relaxing spa-like feel to your home.

Physical exercise and happy hormones - Raising your heartbeat is so important to enable the release of those wonderful happy hormones, endorphins. Regular physical activity can really help with the release of dopamine and serotonin, too – wins all round! A brisk walk is a perfect way to shake off any negative feelings, and being outside really helps this too, with sunlight proven to boost your endorphins and serotonin levels. You’ll feel more energised and positive and much more ready to face the day. Yoga is also one of my go-to feel good activities.

Skincare - A great skincare routine can really enhance your mood. It’s wonderful for taking some time to yourself, and even the smallest of rituals can feel really indulgent. My favourite time of day to do this is before bed as I feel it really calms and relaxes after the stresses of the day, but it can work equally well in the morning and can set you up for a great day.

Our self-care kits are a great way of indulging in a mini facial and involve just 3 steps for a simple yet effective routine. They all contain a cleansing oil, facial mist and facial oil. Fresh Sheets - Make your bed with clean, fresh sheets– one of my favourite things is jumping into gorgeous, crisp fresh sheets after a long soak in the bath, pulling the covers up over you and breathing in the gorgeous scent of clean sheets.

Read a book -  I love to snuggle down for an early night with a good book. This really sets you up for a good night’s sleep and gives you that all-important time away from your screen, which is completely counter conducive to sleep.

Just a few simple steps to think about when starting a new self-care routine. Be positive, and set yourself up for success. Take small steps for the big wins.
